What our customers have to say about Fiskens Feeds

If you are looking for a horse feed that is extremely high in quality and is great value for money, you can’t go past H.R. Fisken’s feed. I have been feeding their feed for over twenty years and my results have been very pleasing.

I've been using both Fisken's Racehorse Mix and Yearling Mix for 28 years (since 1986) and have been thoroughly satisfied with the quality and consistency of their feeds being produced and believe the feed has been responsible for my success as a thoroughbred trainer.

I’ve been using Fiskens Ultra Low GI feed for the last 9 months. My horses are in great condition, glossy and very muscly.

We have competition horses, dressage and show jumpers. By their nature they’re hot and can get a bit excitable and hard to ride with the wrong feed. I want to make sure they don’t become unsafe or unrideable, especially for my daughter.  Ultra Low GI Feed has been ideal for our horses. They’re performance horses - this Low GI feed keeps them in great condition but at the same time they’re cool and calm.

One of the things I really like about Fiskens feeds is the simple packaging – my money goes into the quality of the ingredients, not into an expensive coloured bag or a big marketing budget. And I like the oils that Fiskens use in their feeds. I was a bit shocked when I found out that many feeds sold in NZ use recycled oil that’s reached the end of its life in takeaway shops and fish and chippies. Fiskens only use pure, virgin cold-pressed Canola oil.

A couple of my horses are very fussy about what they eat so I wondered if my horses would eat Fiskens’ Low GI Feed. Would they find it palatable, especially the two really fussy ones. Even the fussy ones really loved it. A couple of my horses are very fussy about what they eat so I wondered if they would eat Fiskens’ Low GI Feed, if they’d find it palatable. As it turns out, even the fussy ones really loved it.

I have been purchasing my horse feed and calf meal from H.R. Fisken and Sons for almost 50 years. I also buy additives and some saddlery lines.

Over the years the service and quality has been exceptional with nothing too much trouble, plus the staff have a great knowledge of their products.

It is a pleasure to deal with such a great company!

I have been using Fisken & Sons products for over 16 years for horses, calves, goats and now predominantly Heritage chickens. The birds love both the pellets and mash, and thoroughly enjoy the grains as a scatter treat. Egg laying and fertility is high and the adults are well grown and healthy, resulting in a very successful 2014 show season.

The service in both the shop and warehouse is helpful and professional, with good advice available at any time. They will source feeds or other products for you if at all possible, making it a one stop shop which is vital for me. Keep it up team.

Having well grown and developed stock is vital to our business so ensuring our calves get the best start possible is absolutely essential.

We have used Fisken’s Calf Meal for over 10 years and our calves love it. It is highly palatable which ensures an easy transition on to meal. The fresh quality ingredients guarantee our calves thrive and are well developed at weaning.

The range offers great flexibility with both 16 % and 20% protein levels available so we can tailor our feeding to their pasture intake. Having the added benefit of Bovatec minimises animal health issues such as coccidiosis and enhances weight gains.

Fiskens have always provided us with great feed, great prices and brilliant service!

Ricardii Qtish aka Rosa

She is our champion doe in 1st lactation and best udder. This photo was taken of her straight out of the paddock before milking in the morning on October 11th 2014. No grooming, no extra products given other than hay and a salt lick block in their house.

She kidded for the second time on 12th July and will probably milk through to March, could be longer this year – will have to see if the goat mix prolongs lactation. Last year’s milk yield from her was an average of 3 litres per day, this year she is producing 5.0 litres and only 3 months freshened

I have been getting my grain from Fiskens since I have owned my dairy goats. I was pre-mixing up my own mix until my herd increased in size and my does were in milk. I approached John Fisken and asked if it would be at all possible to pre-mix the ingredients together to save me time. I took in a sample of what my grain looked like mixed up, and went through the quantities.

John surprised me when he said he had his nutritionist analyse it and had refined a few things added in a vitamin and mineral supplement specially designed for dairy goats, with a high copper sulphate level. We removed some extra maize and supplemented it with kelp, which was the only thing we changed.

We have been feeding this new Fiskens Goat Mix since June 2014 and to my amazement I have noticed the changes listed here:

  • my does and bucks stayed in prime show condition through winter
  • my milk yield has increased by over 50% in some does
  • milk quality has improved- more fat and solids ideal for cheese making
  • kids were eating it by 2-3 days of age, they start cudding before 2 weeks of age
  • feeding less milk to the kids due to the higher quality
  • less problems with illness and parasites
  • No birthing problems – kids were all in correct position and delivered unassisted
  • Kids born were fit and healthy – no mortalities

I am a qualified vet nurse with over 9 years’ experience. Animal welfare is the major factor for me in making sure I have the very best for my goats. This starts with nutrition – being able to provide a well-balanced complete grain supplement means that they benefit from the inside out.

This diet is made of 100% raw ingredients, not cooked or extruded so all the benefits for the animal are still complete. It is highly palatable and digestible.
